The Association is constituted for the purpose of improving the quality of life of racial/ethnic minorities through advocating for culturally appropriate and competent healthcare policies, research, health promotions and clinical services. This purpose is in part reflected in the following principles:
Principle 1.
To advocate and solicit funding for the development of effective
and culturally relevant health promotion and risk reduction
strategies, services, and programs to:
A. Promote culturally and linguistically sensitive interventions;
B. Promote
a continuum of services, which includes community education,
prevention, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation;
C.
Promote effective use of existing resources;
D.
Educate on legislation; and
E. Provide information to service agencies
Principle 2.
To empower racial/ethnic minority communities by strengthening their
indigenous leadership through:
A.
Ensuring that appropriate representation from a variety of
racial/ethnic minority groups is reflected in both the membership
and the composition of committees;
B.
Sponsoring workshops, forums and conferences;
C. Conducting briefing sessions through
community forums with public officials and media.
D. Providing technical assistance to minority providers and others
serving the health and healthcare needs of racial/ethnic minorities
in their efforts to do development and fund raising in the
racial/ethnic minority community (e.g. through grant writing
classes, system evaluations, etc.)
